Lulu Guinness’ debut collection for Uniqlo officially launches today – the designer’s first ever apparel offering. The range will feature a selection of 14 T-shirts, each bearing Guinness’ most iconic prints – from doll faces to red-lipped pouts.

“I have always wanted to put my designs onto T-shirts, so when Uniqlo approached me about doing a collaboration I was thrilled,” Guinness told us. “I have always liked the simplicity of Uniqlo products – they are fantastic for basics and also I love the Heattech range. The brand also chooses intelligent collaborations with designers and I respect their innovation.”

Highlights include a white style with striped sleeves and a pearls motif; another featuring a doll wearing sunglasses (Guinness’ personal favorite); and another in black with graphic cat’s eye print. The collection will be celebrated this evening, with Guinness making an appearance at Uniqlo’s Oxford Street flagship store. Customers will also be able to enjoy the Lulu Boudoir, where they’ll be treated to free manicures and glamorous up-do hairstyling sessions – all between 6.30pm – 9pm.

“I wanted the Uniqlo UT collaboration to follow my mainline handbag collection as much as possible, so that it truly represents the Lulu Guinness brand,” said Guinness. “I looked at my main icons, and also my inspirations for the Lulu Guinness spring/summer 2012 collection, and pulled together my favorite designs which I then worked into the T-shirt design. My iconic lips were important as was my Cameo and my favorite print, Doll Face which was inspired by Peggy Moffitt.”

Can we expect a clothing line under Guinness’ own label any time soon?

“This is a project that hasn’t been discussed as of yet – but watch this space!”

she said.
